Slow It Down

Warning: this will be one long ass post.
I have not updated for about 3 months--I've been so busy! If I had any down time, I spent it SLEEPING.
So much has happened since my last post; yet, I cannot recall every event...It's all a blur! But I shall try to sum it up...

1. Teen Vogue Fashion University: I went to this event that included successful fashion designers giving seminars to young people from all over the world that have a love for fashion. The seminars I attended were by Phillip Lim, Nicole Richie, Chris Benz, Grace Coddington, and the Teen Vogue editors. It was extremely interesting and it made me so grateful for the fact that I live in one of the fashion capitols of the world, so I have access to such wonderful opportunities such as this. This event also led me to score an internship with Chris Benz! I started Monday--I can't talk about it in specifics, but I LOVE IT. I haven't been able to go in today and probably can't tomorrow because of this nasty flu, but it is such an indescribable feeling to be involved in something so much greater, you know? Even though I am truly at the bottom of the industry for now, I'm having so much fun nevertheless.

This was at the private H&M party they held for us! It was pretty cool--they were serving drinks and good-looking men were catering around trays of delish food. There was a private Topshop party too--no photos though ;(

Horrid photo, but that is Grace Coddington! She was lovely.

2. Hurricane Sandy: Perhaps you heard about this monstrosity of a weather. It was absolute hell here for a week. Whenever I went out of my dorm during the week after the hurricane hit and lower Manhattan didn't have power, it felt like this island was going through an apocalypse. It was terrifying. Every single store was closed, with X's taped on every windows, signs of closings put up, and the streets absolutely deserted. When I ventured up to Midtown to buy food there were mobs of people huddled around electric outlets, trying to charge their phones. Restaurants and cafés were packed with people taking refuge from the cold. I didn't have contact with anyone because no cell service was available in Lower Manhattan, I had no power or heat, all public transportation were halted (no way to get out of the island). I felt utterly alone. A quote I came across once is: "New York City is not a city. It's a world." And I felt like this situation fit in so well to the quote, because it felt like the outside world outside New York did not exist. It truly felt like the end of the world, and I hope I never have to experience something like that again. Coney Island and New Jersey had much worse effects from the hurricane though. I should be thankful for at least being safe. I really wish I had taken photos during all of this--I often thought of doing so--but I was really scared the whole time to do anything.

3. Frolicking: I LOVE MANHATTAN I LOVE MANHATTAN I LOVE MANHATTAN

dress: Urban Outfitters; jacket: Urban Outfitters; shoes: Dr. Martens

4. Parsons: 1 semester down; 4 more to go! I think I did pretty well, to be honest... I worked hard. Harder than I can express. I normally don't show my work to people, but these are some that I am particularly proud of...

This bull was made for my absolute favorite class, and my hands were literally bleeding throughout the whole process. LITERALLY made with my blood and tears.

This was the first time I drew a face realistically...I didn't know I could do it!

A painting for my 2D class in greyscale.

Another for my favorite 3D class, it was the final project, and I'm proud to say that my critique was excellent ;)
